about renumbering (clashing names)

When I tried to rename file series, as an example:

07.jpg
08.jpg
09.jpg

to

08.jpg
09.jpg
10.jpg,

I received a message:

“Warning, found 2 invalid Filename(s)!
2 of which has already existing new filepath.”

How I can most easily resolve that?

Re: about renumbering (clashing names)

A very common problem. It is because you will be trying to rename file "07.jpg" into "08.jpg", while file "08.jpg" hasn't yet been renamed to "09.jpg", thus a clash occurs. The easiest solution is to insert some "dummy" character in front of new names, and rename. Then simply remove that "dummy" character and you got your desired names.

For example:
07.jpg
08.jpg
09.jpg

to
_08.jpg
_09.jpg
_10.jpg

And then remove the "_".

Other way is... just before renaming, sort them by new name digits column in reverse order, and rename them despite the warning message. In this way, you will start from the top, renaming "09.jpg" into "10.jpg", giving room for "08.jpg" to be renamed into "09.jpg", and so on.

For example:
09.jpg
08.jpg
07.jpg

to
10.jpg
09.jpg
08.jpg

Good luck smile

Re: about renumbering (clashing names)

Thank You for the second advice! Just I haven’t guessed that it will work despite the warning.
