Suggestions for the French version

Hello everyone, and hello the developers team.

I’m sorry for my limited English... but I would like suggest you some corrections in the French translation of ReNamer...
I mean: French from France and not Canadian French.

Some corrections are purely due to forgotten translations; some other corrections are due to uncorrect spelling.
Some corrections are to bring ReNamer in line with the French standards.

I suggest the following corrections.

- Menu bar
. replace “Language” by “Langage”.

- “Fichiers” drop-down menu
. replace “Undo Renaming” by “Annuler renommage” or the shorter and better “Annuler”;
. replace “Paste files” by “Coller fichiers” or by the shorter “Coller”;
. replace "Ajout fichier” by “Ajout fichiers” (for homogeneity with the English version) ;
. replace “Sortie” by "Quitter".

- “Langage" drop-down menu
. replace "Autodetect” by "Détection auto” or by the shorter “Autodétection” or the shortest “Auto”.

- Button bar
. replace "Ajout fichier” by “Ajout fichiers” (for homogeneity with “Ajout répertoires”).

- Rules bar
. Dialog box "Ajout règle", replace “Préfix" by "Préfixe".

- Keyboard shortcuts
. replace "Enter" by "Entrée" whenever necessary (this piece of advice can be ignored !).

- Files bar
. replace "Columns" by "Colonnes";
. replace “Export” by “Export et import” or even better “Exporter et importer”;
. replace “Analiser” by “Analyser”.

- “Fichiers” drop-down menu
. replace “Editer nouveau nom” by “Renommer”;
. replace “Shell” by... by “Shell”!;
. replace “Enlever sélectionnés” by “Supprimer sélectionnés” or the shorter "Supp. sélectionnés" or even “Supprimer”;
“Supp. sélectionnés” is short and unambiguous.

- “Fichiers” drop-down menu, “Shell” submenu
. replace “Ouvrir fichier contenant” by “Emplacement du fichier";
. the "Couper fichiers dans le Bloc-notes" and "Coller fichiers..." commands open a "Confirmation" box;
.. replace "passer dans" by "placer dans" and "peut importe" by "peu importe";
.. I also suggest to replace "(...) même répertoire peu importe où ils étaient à l’origine" by
"(...) même répertoire, quel que soit leur emplacement initial" (this sentence sounds more French);
.. replace "Effacer fichier dans la Corbeille" by "Supprimer le fichier".

- “Fichiers” drop-down menu, “Marquer” submenu
. replace "Marquer" par "Cocher";
. in its submenu
.. replace "Marquer" by "Cocher";
.. replace "Démarqués" by "Décochés";
.. replace "Inverser marquage" by “Inverser les coches" or shortly "Inverser";
.. replace "Marquer les changés" by "Sélectionner les renommés"
(the action seems to be a selection by inverted video than by ticking);
.. replace “case” by “casse” (even if here, I’ve not yet understood the difference between with and without);
.. replace "Marquer que les sélectionnés” by "Cocher les sélectionnés";
.. replace "Marquer par masque" by "Cocher par masque" or "Sélectionner par masque" according to the specific action.

- “Fichiers” drop-down menu, “Effacer” submenu
. replace "Marquer" by "Cocher";
. replace "Effacer marqués" by “Effacer cochés";
. replace "Effacer non marqués" by "Effacer non cochés";
. replace "Effacer non changés" by "Effacer non modifiés".

- “Fichiers” drop-down menu, “Effacer” submenu
. to be totally French, “Bas” and “En haut” should be respectively translated by “Vers le bas” and “Vers le haut”
but you can be shorter and simply use “Bas” and “Haut”.

- “Colonnes” drop-down menu
. replace “Crée” by “Créé le”;
. replace "Modifié" by "Modifié le";
. replace "Chiffres nom" and "Chiffres chemin " respectively by "Chiffre dans nom" and "Chiffres dans chemin"
(I’m a bit puzzled by these pieces of data);
. replace “Old path” by “Ancien chemin”.

- “Options” drop-down menu
. replace "Taille auto des colonnes" by "Colonnes, largeur automatique" or "Colonnes, largeur auto." ;
if this command had been placed in the "Colonnes” drop-down menu, “Largeur” would have been enough;
. replace "Trier par chemin pour renommage de répertoire" by "Trier par chemin"
or, if it’s really necessary to explain, replace by “Trier par chemin (renommage des répertoires)”;
. "Compter fichiers marqués et sélectionnés" by "Nombre de fichiers marqués ou sélectionnés";
. “Fixer les noms en conflit"; "Analyser le texte d’exemple"; "Appliquer règles pour le bloc-notes";
I don’t understand the actions yet, so I can’t propose any translation;
it should be noted, however, that the first two texts sound strange.

- “Export” drop-down menu
After having used the export functions - and according my understanding the results - I propose the following translations.
. replace “Exporter chemins et les défaires” by "Exporter chemins et noms (ancien et nouveau)";
. replace "Exporter chemins et nouveaux noms" by "Exporter anciens chemins et noms ; exporter nouveaux noms";
in the same logic replace "Importer chemins et (...)” by “Importer anciens chemins (...)”;
. in “Importer fichiers d’une liste ou d’une playliste”, replace "playliste" by "playlist" (in France, we use this English word);
. replace “Exporter comme un fichier batch (chemmin en entier)" by “Exporter comme fichier batch (chemins complets)”;
. replace " Exporter comme un fichier batch (seulement les noms)" by “Exporter comme fichier batch (noms seuls)”.

Probably due to the limited dimensions of the boxes in the English version, the French boxes are difficult to read and use.
And I’ve just noticed that the English “Filter settings” box is not large enough for the text at the bottom.
And, as I’m critisizing the boxes (please, accept my appologies), there is another flaw:
sometimes, the height of the area allocated for a text is too low for a good reading ans undrestanding.

But, let us come back to the topic.

- “Filtres” command and “Paramètres filtre” box
. a better French title could be “Paramètres de filtrage”;
. replace “Comportement lors d’un ajout de répertoire :” by “Ajout de fichiers ou de répertoires";
. replace "Ajouter le répertoire comme fichier" by "Ajouter le répertoire seul" ;
. "Sauter le répertoire racine quan"... the end of the text lacks in the French version as in the English one;
as I suppose that “Skip root folders” means “Not to include root folders”, I propose the following translation:
“Ne pas ajouter le répertoire racine quand...”;
. “Masques:” checkbox :
unhappily, a part of the text is missing, but I suggest to replace “Appliquer que sur le nom” by “Appliquer sur le nom”;
(the correct French version would be “N’appliquer que sur” but the proposed version is sufficiently accurate);
. the bottom checkbox text has’nt been translated; I suggest: “Enregistrer comme paramètres par défaut”.

- “Analyser” command and “Analyser” box
. “Emballer ligne” checkbox...
I’m sorry for it, but this made me laugh a lot!
In France “nous pouvons emballer un paquet” (i. e. we can wrap a parcel),
in a more familiar way “nous emballons aussi des bandits” (i. e. we also bust gangsters),
and - to obey our (very exaggerated) philandering reputation - we can try to “emballer une fille” (i. e. seduce a girl).
More seriously, the accurate translation is “Autoriser le retour à la ligne”;
. replace "Text après la règle" by "Texte après applications des règles";
. "Appliquer règles pour chaque ligne" checkbox: a better text would be "Appliquer les règles à chaque ligne”.

Wow, writing this post turned out to be about ten times longer than previously expected!
But if this work can be helpful for the team of developers, I will be satisfied.
If not, I have been happy to write in (I hope comprehensible) English...

You always could modify/extend/fix by yourself the ReNamer.fr.po language file, which is a plain text file, then share here the modified contents or send the modified file to the author.

I think that would be much better idea than supplying comments/suggestions about modifications, because with a diff comparison tool all the modifications you do in the file could be localized easily by the author.

Just my opinion.
