The 4 main toolbar icons i.e. Add Files, Add Folders, Preview and Rename really need to be updated. Not only do they not match each other, they look quite bad for a program people can purchase as a Pro version. I'm sure there are better free icons available. What do you guys think of the following for example?
Add Files
Add Folders
Preview
Rename
Even the main program icon could do with a much-needed refresh for that matter.

I completely agree with you about the main toolbar icons. Current toolbar icons must be the oldest and ugliest thing left in ReNamer since it was first published.
I like your choices, but would like to have few options to choose from and compare. I'll look around for more alternativeness.
In regards to the main icon. I tried to change it a couple of years ago, even got a digital artist to draw an new icon, but eventually reverted back to the original icon because: A) This is the icon that everyone knows ReNamer by; B) I like it, I think it has something others don't. So instead of replacing the icon, I vectorized it and cleaned it up a bit. The main icon is staying I'm afraid!

You can check out the site I got those icons from. It has a huge selection and clearly mentions the license for each icon/set and whether commercial use is allowed, which would be an important consideration for inclusion in ReNamer.

What do you think about these two versions below?
The icons are taken from 3800 Free "Farm-Fresh Web Icons" (http://www.fatcow.com/free-icons).
I really like the design of this icon set, there are many other alternatives in this massive collection of 3800 icons.

I think I prefer the first one. Because even if the second one looks like more artistic, I feel that the first one is more close to the concept of validations of the program, and would help better to understand it.
If this software has helped you, consider getting your pro version. :)

Check out the latest development version.
Presets Manager also got new icons in the toolbar.

I personally prefer the second version a lot more and there's absolutely no chance of a user misunderstanding the purpose because the text is right there. That check mark for Rename just seems so generic and boring and even the colorful magnifying glass for Preview seems so much better.
Also I feel the icons are a bit too big. I had considered the 32x32 versions too initially but eventually selected the 24x24 ones I posted above. Would it be possible to see what the 24x24 versions of the second set would look like?
Finally, would it be possible to have the same spacing around the first green arrow (especially on the left side) as is used for the second one?

I agree that the green tick mark icon is too generic and boring, it was chosen because I couldn't find a better alternative. Similarly, the magic wand is on the opposite side of the spectrum (too artistic, without real functional meaning). The tick mark is a functional icon, marking the completion of the renaming process. Also check out what it turns in to when you enable "Overwrite files" option in the settings.
I like both Preview icons: to do list with a pencil (first version) and magnifying glass (second version). I hate both Rename icons, however I can live with the tick mark as it doesn't involve magic.
Unfortunately there are no 24x24 icons for this collection. Down sizing 32x32 to 24x24 kills all of the sharp edges, making them just as good as the previously used icons.
The idea behind spacing was to split the task bar into 3 equally spaced portions based on functionality: add files/folders, preview, rename. The add files/folders portion required more space because it has 2 buttons, while Rename button is used more often than Preview (because of auto-preview feature). So the outcome was to have roughly 35% 25% 30% split for 3 portions and 10% for the arrows. The visual difference in spacing around arrows comes from the differences in widths of the buttons.
Here is another version (let's call this v3), with all buttons having the same width and a mix of magnifying glass and a green tick mark.

Personally I said that I liked the pencil and ticks more because I the first time I tried using renamer (long time ago) I was trying to rename without previewing, and thus it didn't work. To me this steps look more clear with the first option of icons. But probably there's not much difference.

But it says Rename right beside the icon! Anyway, it's fine. Dull but acceptable.

But ReNamer does do magic!

If that's the case then 32x32 is ok I guess. Looks far better than before in any case.

While I still vote for the magic wand I think this is a good mix, and the equal width buttons look good too. IMO this design should be finalized, it looks nice.
