No column headings/content in files/folders pane in Windows 98SE using v5.70 and later.
The lastest 5.60+beta I have is v5.60+beta20 and that works OK.

This looks like an issue with the table component called VirtualTreeView, it is used only for the files table.
There were two updates related to this component past version 5.60+ Beta 20:
ReNamer 5.71
* Updated VirtualTreeView component to v5.1.3;ReNamer 5.70
* Upgraded Virtual Treeview component to v5.1.0;
Could you please check if the issue exists in the latest ReNamer 5.71 (downloads)?

@Stefan
Answering your questions in order:
1. Internet Explorer v6.0 SP1
2. GDI32.DLL v4.10.2227, GDI.EXE v4.10.2227
3. Service Packs:
Gapes Windows 98SE Service Pack v2.1a
Maximus Decimus Cumulative Update for 98SE v3.05
Maximus Decimus Internet Explorer 6.0SP1 Cumulative Update v3.4
+Various other Updates/Fixes

@Den4b
I can confirm that v5.71 exhibits the same problem.
I currently use ReNamer in 98SE/XP/Windows7 and had downloaded v5.70/v5.71 but didn't update the 98SE machine from v5.60+Beta20 until now.
ReNamer is a great program and I will certainly make a donation.
HTH

Thanks for the details Spiffy.
I will try to verify this and contact the developer of the component if it happens to be the cause. I'll post updates here.

Umm, looks like you have some theme customization on that windows, have you tried disabling it (if possible)?
If this software has helped you, consider getting your pro version. :)

I have confirmed that the problem exists in Windows 98 / Me.
I've created a bug report for the VirtualTreeview component:
Issue 364: No column headings and content on Windows 98 / ME
Hopefully we'll get that sorted soon.

@SafetyCar
Yes I did disable it but it made no difference.

@den4b (or anyone)
Just out of interest does v5.71 work OK in Windows 2000 ?

It turns out that V5 of the table component no longer supports Windows 98 and ME. Author suggests using previous version V4.8 for those legacy systems.
I guess right now the best way is to downgrade the component to V4.8, however, this raises the long standing question of whether it is time to drop support for those legacy systems, i.e. Windows 98 and ME.
Spiffy, I haven't tested it on Windows 2000 but I would bet that it will work fine since Win 2000 was the start of the new branch that gave life to XP.

I guess right now the best way is to downgrade the component to V4.8,
Me thinks it depends how much advantage that v5 gives over the v4.8?
If it would be better to keep using the v5, (or maybe there will be the need for even newer version)
then how about compiling a ReNamer version once in a year with v4.8 for those Win98 user
and gave all others with newer OS the v5 component with every new ReNamer beta/release?
That would be a compromise for Win98 user to get newer releases from time to time....but a little more work for you.
