Who is still using Window XP or older versions of Windows?

I noticed a lot of the programs available to download from den4b work on Windows versions even older than XP (which has been around since 2001) is anyone here still actively using Windows 2000, 98 or even 95? If yes it would be interesting to know what you use it for and what hardware you are running it on.

Re: Who is still using Window XP or older versions of Windows?

Also for those who are using versions of windows that are no longer supported by Microsoft i am just wondering what people are going to do regarding keeping it secure?
Obviously running anti virus software will protect you to some extend but won't cover you from security holes in the OS leaving your open to getting your PC comprimised.
My personal preference is run Windows in a virtual machine with virtualbox and then i can deny it internet access and just use it for the software that i need to run under the older versions of windows. I now run Linux Mint 13 and have XP running as a virtual machine and find i need to use Windows less and less each day as i find linux alternatives to programs i used to use regularly under Windows.

Re: Who is still using Window XP or older versions of Windows?

I have two machines running XP, an old laptop and a little Acer Veriton which I use as a media center. I also have a virtual machine with XP for development and testing. Security wise... I run Kaspersky everywhere, both anti-virus and firewall, and of course latest security updates.

It was a long time since I used anything older than XP, i.e. 98 or 2000. In fact, I am starting to consider dropping the support for pre-2000 version of Windows. This will let me switch to a newer development environment and also let me eliminate legacy code.

I have a couple of older netbooks running XP, and a few Win9x/XP VMs.

Windows XP will still be supported for at least few more years.

However, support for earlier versions will be ending this year. Surprisingly, it has lasted this long!
