Adding from Clipboard (Using Menu or Shortcut) Not Working

Hi,

I am a new "Reanmer" (non-commercial) user and really love the program!! :-)

However, I am having a problem when attempting to add files from clipboard.  I am unable to get this function to work when I try either going through the menu ("File, then Paste") or even when using keyboard shortcut ("shiftl+ctrl+v).  Using either option, the current filename in my clipboard never appears in my lower window (which always says "Drag your files here".

I do use a clipboard enhancer program called "ClipMate" (from "Thornsoft Development") ; but the ClipMate utility has never interfered with pasting into any other programs, so I am figuring that it is probably not causing a problem in Renamer as well [and, in fact, after I wrote this post and before posting, I did close the ClipMate program down (completely out of my computer's memory) and tried copying and pasting into Renamer again using both menu and keyboard shortcut commands, and this function still did not work]. :-(

Wondering id perhaps I have a menu option set up incorrectly in Renamer, or something that might be causing this function not to work.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks! :-)

Best Wishes,
Brian

Re: Adding from Clipboard (Using Menu or Shortcut) Not Working

Hi Brian, welcome!

You can add files by copy & paste? Funny, never occurred to me. I always use drag&drop or maybe Add Files.
Anyway, c&p works for me from menu and via CS+V with v5.70 on Win7 32.
As far as I know there is no option to modify the c&p behaviour.

I guess it is something at your box as I hear about that problem the first time.

Perhaps, check your task manager what else app is running which could led to that described behaviour.
If you want you can paste a list of your running processes, perhaps one can spot what happens.

From command line you can use this command to get such list:

for /f "tokens=1" %p in ('tasklist') do @echo %p

or

for /f "tokens=1" %p in ('tasklist') do @echo %p >C:\Temp\procs.txt

Re: Adding from Clipboard (Using Menu or Shortcut) Not Working

Just to make sure that "pasting a filename" is not meant as pasting the actual file path as text (e.g. "C:\Folder\File.txt"). This will not work. The actual file/folder object need to be copied into the clipboard (via Windows Explorer or similar application).

Try to open the explorer, right click on the file/folder and select "Copy" option from the menu (don't use the shortcut in this exercise). Then open ReNamer, Main Menu > File > Paste.

Good addition!

Just to complete this topic:

The other way around; to paste a file name as a plain text string  (e.g. "C:\Folder\File.txt")
add a rule UserInput first and paste that string there.

Note: UserInput gives you also the possibility to utilize 'Load from Text file'

.

Re: Adding from Clipboard (Using Menu or Shortcut) Not Working

Hi Stefan and Administrator,

Wanted to thank you both so much for getting back to me so quickly with some good troubleshooting suggestions and ideas! :-)

Although both were helpful, actually the Administrator clued me in to what I was doing wrong.  What I had been doing was using the "Rename" command to first copy a file name to clipboard, and then was trying to paste that into the ReNamer program (I tend to use the "rename" command often- which is actually what led me to discover a program such as ReNamer- that makes the whole process so much easier by allowing things such as custom user rules to rename files).  I had actually never though of copying the file, itself, to the clipboard and then importing into ReNamer (suppose it just did not occur to me to do it this way).  But once I took the Administrators advice and copied the actual file itself, the past into ReNamer worked perfectly- I am happy to report! :-)  Now just one follow-up question to doing it this way.  There is not chance of damaging or somehow inadvertently changing the file, or its actual contents, by doing this, is there?  Just wanted to make sure that what I wanted to accomplish (what I consider to be a more "cosmetic" change such as changing the name of the file) doesn't have the potential to actually change the contents or the file structure itself in doing so, by using this method.  (I suppose I am just looking for a little reassurance here.) ;-).

Thanks again!

Best Wishes,
Brian

Re: Adding from Clipboard (Using Menu or Shortcut) Not Working

Hi Brian, glad you figured it out.

And no, on renaming a file it will not modified  the content at all.
ReNamer will do only things you can do your own by utilizing the ""Rename" command" of WinExplorer.

(to other readers: that you can utilize PascalScript to change content or meta data of files... is a other story)
