Renaming failure

I searced the forum and didn't notice an answer.... so,
As a beginner I renamed a total of 33 files, combined from 2 folders.  When I click on Rename it says all files failed to rename.  Obviously I'm missing something.  Ideas would be welcome.
Thanks,
Ray Davis

Re: Renaming failure

Hi Ray,

Please provide a sample of your rules, filenames and new names, and preferably a screenshot so we can diagnose the problem.

Re: Renaming failure

Thanks for your response...

1) Delete: Delete from Position 1 until the End (skip extension)
2) Insert: Insert "Church" as Prefix (skip extension)
3) Serialize: Serialize Incremental from 1 step 1 repeat 1 and pad to length 3 as suffix (before extension)

And this may seem odd, but I can't find a way to attach my screen shot.
Hint??

Sounds like a) the files are in use by an other program, or b) you have no write access to that folders.
If we should help, please provide some details, like path of that files and your operating systems, also if you have enabled UAC in case of Vista or Seven-

Looks fine.

Could it be that you added the files and then you moved them into other folder?
Being that the case, the programs will try the access the previous location and you will not be able to rename them.

Another option I see is some kind of protection on the hard drive writing. I know sometimes there are problems with this but I don't know about the details... Could you tell which is your Operating System?

Finally, here there are some other possibilities that you might like to see:

Re: Renaming failure

Hi,
The administrator asked for the screen shot..  sounds like short of a way to email them, there is no way to send one.

I use Win7, and UAC is minimal.  I'll try turning it of tho and see if that makes a difference.  Also, all files are in their original locations.  I do use Panda security; would that block internal change?  The files I want to rename are on an external drive in an enclosure.

Re: Renaming failure

Ray, I have replied to your email.

You can email me the screenshot or upload it to one of the free image hosting services, e.g. tinypic.com, imageshack.us.

Please enable "Path" column in ReNamer before making a screenshot. This might help identify the problem.

Re: Renaming failure

Let's filter out the reasons for the failed renaming (as in the wiki):

1) File path exceeds maximum number of characters.
2) Destination file already exists (name conflict).
3) Source file does not exist.
4) The file is being blocked by other program.
5) You don't have sufficient privileges to rename the file.
6) Invalid destination path.

Ray, please check the remaining reasons, i.e. the ones not crossed out.

First, try to manually rename the file by opening the Command Prompt and executing something like:

REN "2013-03-02 (1) 0001.jpg" "Church001.jpg"
