ReNamer but for text files

I mean it would be great if I could use the same functions of ReNamer on a text file in a line by line basis.

Re: ReNamer but for text files

You can do that by using "Analyze sample text" and "Apply rules to the clipboard" options form the "Options" menu above the files table.

Re: ReNamer but for text files

Thanks I was unaware of that possibility. But it is limited because it can only use rules for files that way. Right now I'm actually looking for a way to remove lines/groups of letters without certain characters/characteristics.

Trying to filter everything out of a text file except email addresses right now. More advanced line by line rules could also be very useful when translating/editing subtitle files.

Re: ReNamer but for text files

ReNamer is aimed at filenames. I'm afraid you'll need to search for another tool to achieve that.

Re: ReNamer but for text files

I get that renamer is aimed at changing filenames but this is the suggestions section. It seems to me that it would be relatively easy to create another tool based on renamer that can apply all the renamer rules on a line by line basis on a text (simple .txt) file + a few additional rule possibilities a bit more aimed at text like the ones I mentioned.

I've been looking for something like that but haven't found anything simple and easy like renamer or anything that does more than just replace stuff in a text file. The tools that I found so far are either to simple or to complex nothing in between for us users that need a gui.

So why not put the idea here as my mind goes to renamer as that what comes the closest.

Re: ReNamer but for text files

Hi eNdEmiOn,

Yes, it would be great if Denis comes up with a text-processing tool with capabilities borrowed from ReNamer.

In the mean time try TextCrawler, a powerful find-and-replace tool that can work on multiple files.

Re: ReNamer but for text files

I actually already tried TextCrawler before I posted here, I did not find it that useful. I got the best results with "Quick Search and Replace" but still when I filtered out what I needed there was still quite a lot to be done by hand. Thanks for the suggestion non the less though.

Re: ReNamer but for text files

yes, TextCrawler does not always do the expected, and that's the reason I agreed with your suggestion for a new tool from Denis! smile
