Hi Denis,
Any plans to take this forward?

Yes, sorry, forgot to follow up on this thread.
If this option is executed as part of the Rename operation we are causing automatic changes to the filenames which are not moderated by the user. A better place to execute this option may be immediately after the Preview. This also preserves the WYSIWYG logic, i.e. Rename operation simply applies the changes as you see in the table. I will also propose not to remove this option from the "Options" menu as it is still useful for one time use (for me at least).
If we are all ok with this option to be added to the Preview tab and executed after the Preview operation, then I can add this option right away.
P.S. The name "Fix conflicting new names with suffix" is ok?

Well, currently user has only two options at runtime:
(a) to press SHFT+F to attach a predefined suffix (he cannot choose the format, nor rename the file freely)
(b) skip the renaming of that file.
In the proposed scheme, the user gets all these options (and much more).
Therefore, we do not need a manual SHFT+F option at all.
I added a manual renaming option (see below):
In case renaming results in name-conflicts:
( ) Add auto-serialized suffix
( ) Allow manual renaming <= New option, to pop up a small renaming window.
( ) Skip renaming of the file
( ) Overwrite older file
[ ] Always ask before overwriting
The preview should include the net effect of the currently selected option.
For example, if the user has chosen to add a suffix, it should show what suffix will be added.

Though I'm not one of who is going to use this new features (I prefer to keep using the Options menu), I'd like to point out that the manual renaming popup is a little bit dangerous if you are using auto-preview.
You might have temporarily all names set to equal (for example, before adding a serialize rule), so in this case if you had lots of files in the file list you will have to cancel them all. In that case the least would be a "Skip All" button.
If this software has helped you, consider getting your pro version. :)

Ah, yes.
Here's the revised scheme:
In case renaming results in name-conflicts:
( ) Add auto-serialized suffix
( ) Skip renaming of the file
( ) Overwrite older file
[ ] Always ask before overwriting
Denis, are you saying that ReNamer will still allow the user to use the manual SHFT+F trick?
That may be possible when the "Skip renaming of the file" option is selected.
But if the other options are already selected, the we have no reason/chance to use the manual fixing.
Probably this entire section would need a check box: When it is deselected, the ReNamer would revert to manual fixing mode.

Hi Denis,
ANY form of implementation of your choice would be welcome!

Sorry for the delay, I was a bit preoccupied with the spam storm.
As I mentioned in the previous post, I don't really like the idea of automatically modifying names during the renaming operation as it may result in unpredictable and undesirable results. I would prefer to put this option into the preview settings, which can be executed automatically after every preview.
Will that work for you guys?

This option has been implemented in ReNamer 5.60.23 Beta

Thanks- That works perfectly (and saves me a lot of headache)!
