Re: Upper case the extension only

Logical? Of course it is logical, which is why I requested this feature (changing case of only extension and skipping filename) more than 4 years ago (and even provided mock-ups of how the dialog could be improved a bit), but you stated that "very few users would ever bother changing the case of the extension". Fine, you are the final judge obviously so I have been using custom scripts all this time or other renaming utils to accomplish this. Sorry, but how come the exact same suggestion seems logical now and not back then?

What I meant is that the need to make extension upper case as well as lower case is quite common, hence, it deserves the right to be added, especially when it doesn't require much work. What was discussed in the referenced thread is the idea of doing more complex manipulations with the file extension (i.e. same options for extension as for the base name) and redesign of the Case rule, to which I had to say no because I did not see much benefit in it.

Do you often need to make extension anything but lower or upper case?

I realize that these two options probably cover 99.9% of the use cases, but unfortunately mine falls into the remaining 0.1%. I access a GPFS cluster and for reasons I will not go into here, it is required to store at least the last 3 (sometimes 4) data set iterations into files with the same names and locations. Also due to constraints I have absolutely no control over, it is easier to simply vary the case of the file extensions than the file names themselves. (Told you it was not a common situation!) With the data sets originating from a GPFS Windows server, I currently call ReNamer with a custom PascalScript from the command-line to do the extension renaming. The entire process is automated via another script that sends the data down the pipeline for further processing.

Anyway, excuse my outburst, but even a built-in upper-case option (which you acknowledge is a common requirement) would have been nice to have all these years. However, what's great is that you're still actively looking for ways to improve your software, and haven't abandoned it like I've seen so many other developers do. smile
