I think that if explorer let's you rename it, ReNamer will.
So, I would try to rename it manually to check if something is blocking it.

Well, sorry that we aren't helping much, but your problem is very strange.
Ok, now, I'm starting to think that is something about permissions.
¿What operating system do you use?
¿Do you use ReNamer as portable, or you installed it?
¿Did you try the same renaming, for example in "My Documents" folder?
