Send Multiple Files to ReNamer

Hi! It's my first post here.

I love this app! It's small, lightweight and it does whatever you expect it to do!

My only suggestion is when I click on a single file (in Explorer) and send it to ReNamer via context menu, it works.
The problem is when I want to add multiple files the same way. Nothing happens.

Is there a way to add multiple files to ReNamer via context menu?

Hi krypnik, welcome.

Yes ReNamer can do this.

Which version of ReNamer do you use?
Which windows version?

How do you load the files?  I guess "Context menu > Open with..." ?

Use "Context menu > send to > ReNamer" instead. See Settings F8 > Misc tab

Re: Send Multiple Files to ReNamer

Thanks for your answer, Stefan.

I'm using ReNamer 5.10 on Vista Ultimate 64.

I had already checked the 'Add to "Send To" context menu' box and that's the way I'm opening the files. Not through Open with...

The thing is: when I right click on a single file and 'Send it To' ReNamer, it works. Right clicking on an folder also works.
What doesn't work is selecting some files and Sending them to ReNamer. Nothing happens when I click the ReNamer from the Send To context menu.

Thanks again!

Re: Send Multiple Files to ReNamer

@krypnik

You are welcome.

I don't know anything how V1sta works (till now) (but ReNamer should work with V1sta => http://www.den4b.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=230&p=1)
But with WinXP SP2 ReNamer 5.1 can open several files at once through "SendTo"

Can you check the properties of the link called "ReNamer.lnk"  (or "ReNamer")
in your SendTo -Folder ? In WinXP you would find this under
>c:\Documents and Settings\your-Login-Name\SendTo\ReNamer.lnk<

(i think for V1sta this is >C:\Users\your-Login-Name\SendTo\ReNamer.lnk<   ?????)
EDIT:
>C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo\ReNamer.lnk<

Check the path in the target field and if it is followed by an blank and >/enqueue<
Like f. ex.: >D:\Tools\ReNamer\ReNamer.exe /enqueue<

Did you tried to "SendTo" files from different places or do you try always the same files?

Do you say even ReNamer didn't starts if you select some files and SendTo ReNamer?

I hope if Denis is online again he can enlightening us somehow.

Re: Send Multiple Files to ReNamer

Hi Stefan,

The properties of the link in 'Send To' are correct ("C:\Program Files (x86)\ReNamer\ReNamer.exe" /enqueue)

I tried Sending To from different places with the same results.

Do you say even ReNamer didn't starts if you select some files and SendTo ReNamer?

Exactly. ReNamer won't even start.

So far this is what I got:
- Send single file to ReNamer - works (ReNamer opens with the file in the edit list)
- Send folder to ReNamer - works (ReNamer opens with all files within folder in the edit list)
- Send multiple files to ReNamer - doesn't work. ReNamer doesn't start

I tried sending multiple files to other locations in the SendTo list like Disks, Compressed folder and it works fine.

Thanks again for your interest!

Re: Send Multiple Files to ReNamer

Unfortunately I don't have Vista to test any of this, but there are things which you try. Open help file for ReNamer, and find "Command Line" section, which describes what options exists and how they work.

Try manually entering command and experiment with test files/folders, for example:

* ReNamer.exe "c:\file1"
* ReNamer.exe "c:\folder1" "c:\folder2" "c:\file1" "c:\file2"
* ReNamer.exe /enqueue "c:\file1"
* ReNamer.exe /enqueue "c:\folder1"
* ReNamer.exe /enqueue "c:\folder1" "c:\folder2" "c:\file1" "c:\file2"
and several other combinations...

And tell which worked, and which didn't. This might bring some more light on this issue.

The "/enqueue" option works in a special way. For each call, it will launch an instance of ReNamer, and will check if any other instances are already running. If it finds already running instance, it will send all files to it, and will terminate it-self. If no instance is found, it will continue with normal execution and will ad files to it-self.

There might have been changes in Vista which could have broken this functionality, but strange enough, you are the only person to report this issue, so it might be just your system configuration.
