re naming photos

Hi
I have this problem, I simply don't understand how to use ReNamer.

I have 10's 000 of photos collected over the years friends family etc.
The date of them is not a problem as I filed them when i took them, but what I do require is for all of them to be re-numbered from 1-300, so they are easier broken down and shared with family. Some files contain over 1000 photos
Thanks in advance
Pete

Re: re naming photos

Can you provide some examples of input and desired output filenames?

See the Quick Guide to understand how to use ReNamer.

Re: re naming photos

Hi
Some are named and some are not, I just want to strip all the names and replace with numbers from 01-300
Is this possible and how to do it?
Thanks

Re: re naming photos

You can use the Serialize rule to achieve that.

> Index starts: 1
> Repeat: 1
> Step: 1
> Pad with zeros to length: 3
> Where: Replace current name

Re: re naming photos

To build up a complete name add a "Delete"-rule as first rule. If you mark the checkbox "Delete current name" all the following rules work on an empty name (with skip extensions the extension itself keeps untouched).

Re: re naming photos

Hi
I have tried the delete rule on a file of 2000+ photos and only 5 names were removed. These are not copyright or anything just family photos. I followed the instructions, but I still don’t know where I am going wrong

Hi Pete, there are some misunderstanding or false information:

Read your posts again:

--- 10's 000 of photos
--- re-numbered from 1-300 ? me guess, you mean folders?
--- Some files contain over 1000 photos ? you mean "folders contain" ?
--- Some are named and some are not ? you have files without a name?

Please sit down, think, and then explain again what you want to do.
Maybe, take a picture of your situation and show us?

You can also start a CMD.exe console window,
browse to the top main folder of your issue,
use the DOS command:
TREE /F >"C:\Temp\aaaa.txt"
clean up the lines in "aaaa.txt" to keep only a few and post that here.

I could imagine you want to rename folders?

Re: re naming photos

Hi,
The photos are already in folders, the name of the folders will not change, some are holiday folders by country and date Christmas etc

What I do want is the contents to change, but they are all mixed up with other people renaming them or adding other family members photos.

I want to rename all the photos from 01 to 300 then start again if more photos are in file from 01 to 300

try the Serialize rule as den4b shows above and additionally use there "Reset every: 300"

Reset every    Reset index to the initial value after processing this many files.
