Disable overwrite pop up?

Hi,

Is there a way to disable the overwrite warning pop up window?

I'm executing Renamer from command line on dozens of folders
at a time so this becomes a bit of an issue.

Other than that, I LOVE your program, Denis :)

Re: Disable overwrite pop up?

There is no way to do that from user's perspective, and it doesn't really sound like a good idea.... So you are constantly overwriting files on purpose? As a possible solution, I can suggest you to rename those file to a temporary location, and then through the batch file remove the old files and overwrite with the new ones...

Re: Disable overwrite pop up?

Believe it or not overwriting existing files can be a HUGE time and
space saver.

It's also a pretty common practice. My animation pipeline uses several command
line executables and they all support it. Example: xcopy under DOS and
the 'exists:overwrite' flag under imageConverterPlus.

I use Renamer in an animation pipeline. Many versions of same files are kept
safe (so overwriting isn't an issue), but once in a while a render goes bad and
files need to be rewritten to the same folder. I KNOW they are bad, but I might
forget to clean up the directory so the result is just a mess the minute Renamer
starts adding version numbers or a waste of time if I have to approve the
overwrites.

Naturally, I could (and probably will) write a script that would check if files already
exist in a render directory and delete them before commencing a render, but a
simple flag would have been easier so I thought I'd ask smile

Re: Disable overwrite pop up?

Good news for you!

I've add an option to disable the confirmation dialog for overwriting files, in the Settings.

Try it from here: ReNamerBeta.zip

Re: Disable overwrite pop up?

Fantastic! big_smile

Hope you won't hate me, but I have one more suggestion --

Could unchecking this new box also do away with the duplicate names warning?

The reason why I'm asking is that while the overwriting works perfectly now,
one still has to manually approve it. 1 click is a 50x better than the way it worked before,
but I have your script executing as the first of a 5 step procedure which means that the
'operator' has to approve the overwrites before the rest kicks in.

Either way, thank you for the fix!

Re: Disable overwrite pop up?

Duplicated names warning is to do with the validation.

You can untick the "validate new filenames on preview" and the warnings will go away...
