Folders starting with Period not shown

First of all thank you very much for creating this tool (Shutter as well). ReNamer is one of the best and intuitive renaming tools I've had the pleasure using; and I have tried many. Before this I used File Renamer Ultra, but it is old and lacks support (It did have a nice Shell Context Menu item).

On-Topic: As the title states, the program does not seem to show folders that start with a Period in the 'Add Folders' explorer window. I have tried the beta, but it has the same problem.

Running on Windows XP SP3.

I'm relatively new so apologies if I missed something obvious.

Hi and welcome.

That's an common windows behavior.
WindowsTM takes all behind last dot as extension and sees no 'file name'.
For example WinEx won't let you create a folder with leading dots
(you have to use a naming schema like '.MyFolder.', then it works, or use command shell or another file manager)

A work around for you may be to drag&drop the files from WinEx to ReNamer
or use 'Add Files' to see your folder with leading dot and then utilize Ctrl+A to add all files.

I think it is not the default of windows, I see them in the treeview. I think in Mac (or it was Linux?) the dot at the front stands for hidden file and so they are not displayed, but in windows they are as far as I know.

Aha, I have never noticed this behavior before. Thanks for the help and information.

I'll be sure to spread a good word to my friends about this tool.

What are you trying to say repeating the same?
In Windows folders can have any dots, if you put a dot at the beggining or at the end trying to simulate an extension it won't matter, will be displayed anyway. I've done it, and they still appear everywhere in the explorer windows and other programs.

Re: Folders starting with Period not shown

Guys, this is a bug. All folders starting with a dot are skipped during a folder scan.

This is an "intentional behavior" of the past (10 years ago), when the only time when the folder name would start with a dot is case of special "." and ".." folders.

I will fix it asap.
